Overview

Description

Located close to cultural attractions of central Massachusetts and perched on a hill, this 60-site campground also offers yurt and group camping. In addition to beautifully forested hiking trails, Walker Pond provides a campers swimming beach and access to fishing and boating.

Geography:

Wells State Park is a popular 1,400-acre woodland park close to the cultural attractions of central Massachusetts including the city of Worcester and Old Sturbridge Village. The campground has 60 attractive sites, including 1 small group site, 4 Yurts and some sites perched on a hillside adjacent to Walker Pond. The pond also offers campers a swimming beach and fishing and boating opportunities.

Recreation:

More than 10 miles of trails crisscross the property, which are for hiking only; off-road vehicles may not be used. A popular route leads to the scenic vista at Carpenter Rocks from which the eastern section and Walker Pond can be viewed. Wells is only five miles by car from Old Sturbridge Village, a nationally-renowned living history museum of New England village life in and around 1800. During the summer, Wells has an interpretive program available which provides guided walks, hikes, recreational activities and evening campfire programs.

Facilities:

Wells State Park offers 60 campsites, one group site and four yurts. Accessible comfort stations are located throughout the campground and offer hot showers and flush toilets. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, pedestal grill and a fire ring. The facilities include a boat ramp and campers-only freshwater swimming beach. There is no dumping station at this location. The park office will have information on local alternative dumping stations.

We have yurts! Yurts are canvas sided, cabin-like structures that can accommodate 4 to 6 people. Yurts offer bunk beds, chairs and tables, and access to water and electricity. (Linens and eating utensils are not provided.) Yurts are accessible. NOTE: Electrical service is not sufficiently reliable for use with medical equipment.
